Success Story
Felt like she wasn't alone anymore
“This program gave me the confidence to know that I’m not alone as a newcomer to Canada. I made connections with people who guided me through the employment process and gave me the confidence to present myself professionally. After the program, I thought, ‘I can do this,” explains Arpita, a recent high school graduate who participated in a program with The King’s Trust Canada.
Following the 3-day program where participants learned about the history of the CN Tower, participated in skill-building sessions, mock interviews, and a group hiring event, Arpita was offered employment with the CN tower in the food and beverage department. “I saw the program as an opportunity to learn more about the Canadian experience while working to save money for school in the fall,” explains Arpita.
“I really appreciated the mock interviews with the RBC volunteer team. Before this, I was afraid to speak in front of a group. But now, I can speak confidently. I’m not at my best, but I’m becoming better, and it started the day I completed the program,” says Aprita. The TKTC program resulted in an impressive 82 percent hiring outcome as participants secured roles in Guest Services and Food and Beverage. “Not only did I get a job, I made new friends and left feeling more prepared to succeed in the Canadian workforce.”
