Success Story
Felt more confident
Nour was an Environmental student at the University of British Columbia when she joined a King’s Trust Canada’s program in 2021. As a third-year student, Nour understood skill-based training as an essential addition to her academic education. “I believe many universities don’t provide students with the practical and hands-on set of skills that majority of jobs in the market might actually be looking for,” explains Nour.
TKTC’s programming helped push beyond the walls of the classroom and build upon Nour’s theoretical knowledge of environmentalism with practical, career-oriented training and mentorship. “Because, for me, school alone wasn’t really enough to fulfil all the knowledge and skills that I’m eager to gain in this field. The King’s Trust Canada is definitely the right place to find training” says Nour.
But it’s not just the training Nour found valuable, it was also the support network: “The program equips students with the resilience they need to successfully pursue a career with confidence and devotion,” explains Nour.
After the program, Nour felt confident about the various opportunities to work in the sustainability sector, whether in research, technology, or physical work.
“It was enlightening and insightful to reflect upon those avenues and think about what I see myself doing in the foreseeable future.”
Fast forward to 2023, Nour is a certified arborist with a Bachelor of Urban Forestry and a Bachelor of Sciences in Architecture working at an environmental consulting firm in Vancouver. Nour is pursuing the field of arboriculture to be the voice of nature, and to learn how to protect the resilient trees and the life they sustain within our dense urban cities.
